Trauma survivors commonly contract their posture and attention, which is a result of the natural shock response and is also a coping strategy to reduce awareness of physical and emotional pain. This distress response usually stays stuck in the body until it is deliberately unlearned.
This experiential workshop for helping professionals will focus on how to use body awareness and empowerment training as a solution to learned powerlessness and the somatic trauma response. By becoming more aware of their bodies, survivors can identify what they are feeling and doing with more clarity. By opening and balancing their breathing, muscle tone, posture, and movement, survivors can develop a state of relaxed alertness, power, and love which will help them manage stress and pain, stay present in their bodies, and develop skills of assertiveness and self-protection. The training will be conducted in English.
