Paul Linden’s Online Aikido Class: principles of action

$20.00$100.00

Practice principles of action that will make your Aikido techniques more effective: Gain a precise understanding of the structural mechanics of the attacker’s and defender’s movements, so that you can accomplish more while doing less. Practice the controlled use of appropriate force, so that you can practice safely and do what is needed in real-life situations.

This class is not meant to replace your existing Aikido practice; we will meet twice a month to augment your training elsewhere. You are encouraged to use the time between our online sessions to practice applying those principles on and off the mat.

Open to practitioners of any style or lineage of Aikido. A practice partner is required. Meets twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Saturday at 1PM Eastern Time. Session recordings will be available.

Sliding scale tuition: $20-$100 per person, per month

In this class, you will practice principles of action that will make your Aikido techniques more effective.

This class is not meant to replace your existing Aikido practice; we will meet twice a month to augment your training elsewhere. You are encouraged to use the time between our online sessions to practice applying those principles on and off the mat.

We will focus on the following:

  • Gaining a precise understanding of the structural mechanics of the attacker’s and defender’s movements, so that you can accomplish more while doing less.
  • Executing defense techniques as specific extensions of the attacker’s movements.
  • Using intentional projection to establish a more structurally balanced, stable, and mobile way of being and moving.
  • Developing a heightened awareness of how you could injure someone, so that you are less likely to hurt your practice partners or use excessive force in real-life situations.
  • Facing and executing realistic attacks (in a safe and supportive environment) while anchoring yourself in a state of compassion and power, so that you are better able to control angry, violent impulses.

WHO: This class is open to practitioners of any style or lineage of Aikido. YOU MUST REGISTER WITH A PRACTICE PARTNER who will participate with you live in the same room. If you really want to take this class, but you do not have a practice partner available at class time, please contact Paul to discuss whether attending solo is an option (if too many participants don’t have partners, Paul cannot teach this class). You are always welcome to register for the class and utilize the recordings for individual learning or partner practice.

WHEN: We will meet for approximately 90 minutes on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month at 1:00 PM Eastern Time (New York) on Zoom. Session recordings will be made available to all registered participants. The recordings may be edited to focus on the periods of instruction and exclude off-camera participant practice.

PRACTICE DETAILS: You will need some space to move around. Dress comfortably (martial arts uniform optional). We will not be practicing throws or rolls; however, you are encouraged to apply the principles you learn in this online class during your in-person Aikido training.

TUITION: sliding scale $20-$100 per person, per month
